PUBLISHER'S NOTE

Out of Chaos…

Publishers Marcie Sprecher (l) and Mary Catherine McKee (r).

On a recent sunny October day, we cut out of work a bit early, put on our biking helmets and headed for the beautiful foothills of South Fayette. Avid mountain bikers, we were looking for the therapy that comes from meandering along forest lanes surrounded by brilliantly-colored trees that festoon our neighborhood each fall. You can’t find this just anywhere. People spend thousands traveling to New England for the same enriching experience.

As we rode, we got to talking about the stresses of raising a family, stresses that are familiar to those residents who work all day, tend to the usual family chores, then rush to drive their children to and from the many sports and activities in which they’re involved. It’s a sacrifice, but one we gladly make for our children.

So, it is with great pleasure that we note that South Fayette has established an Athletic Association, beginning in January 2007. We applaud the people behind this development, and their dedication in giving a leadership boost to organizing local sports activities.

The South Fayette Athletic Association is devoted to the promotion of athletics and sportsmanship in the township. Thus, all township sports must comply with organizational standards, including safety clearances for adults who supervise our children, training for coaches, and equal treatment for all children participating.

Beginning in January, every resident with a child in a township sport will have a place to go with complaints, criticisms, and even congratulations. Let’s rally around this organization!

After all, if we’re going to make all this superhuman effort to keep our children involved, we should be able to share in the enjoyment knowing an official body now exists to ensure standards are upheld.

Have a safe and happy holiday season! Go Steelers!
